The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the first-of-its-kind networking event for Korea’s next generation of leaders on Friday, October 18. This event, which was the first large-scale event for the newly established 'Youth and Local Diplomacy Team,' aimed to deepen the youth’s understanding of and involvement in MOFA's numerous youth policies and strengthen networking among the younger generation.

The first session of the event focused on informing the younger generation of the various policies MOFA is currently undertaking for the youth. However, the undeniable highlight of the afternoon was the conversation the young participants were able to have with Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul. Without having to listen to any speeches, the younger generation were able to directly ask questions to the Foreign Minister; to which they were able to get honest and sincere answers.

Minister Cho Tae-yul stated that the event was particularly meaningful as it provided an opportunity to exchange opinions with the younger generation about various topics, including strategies on how Korea can diplomatically maneuver around the geopolitical challenges that are arising simultaneously around our region and the world, while at the same time upholding the values Korea stands for, and the qualities required of diplomats. He emphasized that communication and cooperation with the youth provides crucial impetus in formulating our country’s foreign policy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to offer full support to enable young people to participate in shaping foreign policy, helping them gain experience and develop their capabilities.

In the second session of the event, there was a ‘Seminar on Strengthening Youth Diplomatic Capabilities.’ Special Representative for Indo-Pacific, Amb. Chung Keeyong, explained Korea’s relevant policies and participants engaged in comprehensive dialogue with Amb. Chung on the strategic significance and diplomatic role of the Indo-Pacific region, and explored creative solutions to a range of regional issues during the discussions.

Lee Sira, the chief youth advisor to the Foreign Minister, who oversaw the event, said, "We will continue with efforts that will allow more active participation from the younger generations to ensure sustainability of MOFA's youth policies."
